CTE was established in 1998
as an Egyptian Free Zone company owned by CTI and local Egyptian
partners.
CTE placed a floating terminal in Egypt during the years 1998-
2001, which was utilized as an import and bagging station
to the local Egyptian Market. An average of 300,000 metric
toms was handledper year. During the same period, and in fulfillment
of its contractual obligations with the Egyptian Port Authorities,
CTE constructed on BOT basis its own privately owned berth
on the Red Sea Port of Safaga. The berth commenced operation
in 2001. CTE Safaga berth is strategically located to make
use of Egypt exports from the Red Sea Zone and Upper Egypt.
The berth has a draft of 11 meters and can accept vessels
of up to 150 meter length. Alongside, the berth is a cement
storage facility of capacity 15000 tons, with a ship loading
facility.
In addition to Cement and Clinker, CTE also uses the berth
to export about 100,000 tons of quartz annually for third
parties.
